We officially made it to Honduras! The journey here was fairly smooth, only a few bumps along the way, but our spirits are high! It was 21 hour travel day and many of us got little sleep, so we will all sleep well tonight!
When we arrived in Honduras, the pastors from the six churches we support met us at the airport. They welcomed us, helped us with 85+ of luggage, and maintained beautiful smiles the entire time. From the airport, we stopped for lunch, considering we hadn’t eaten since 2am and it was now 4pm EST. We started our food journey close to home at the local Pizza Hut. I was surprised to see hear we’d be eating at an American restaurant, but their Pizza Hut’s have much better pizza than ours - who knew?! We visited with the local pastors and learned so much about their home towns, their families and the blessings they’ve received from our church over the last 10 years. My Spanish is very rusty, but they are so patient and want to engage, even if it is over Google Translate or through our translators.
After lunch we drove an 1.5 hrs to a lot of land donated to one of the missionaries we support. We basked in the beauty of the landscape and prayed over the land (see the picture), asking for Gods will to be done! We were blessed when a senior Honduran pastor prayed over the land. Even though we didn’t understand his words, we felt the presence of the Lord and the power of his prayer! It was so moving and incredible to be apart of.
From there, we travelled another 3 hours to our hotel. We arrived well after dark and look forward to seeing the beauty of the landscape around us in the morning. We will attend two churches services tomorrow, morning and evening, and our leader Rob has been asked to share his thoughts during each service.
Though the day was long, I have loved every minute of the day - even the heat. I’ve challenged myself to stay off my phone and really stay present, and I am so thankful for these mindful moments. I’m beyond excited for tomorrow and can’t wait to share the next step in our Faithful Journey!
Now the fun begins.
